ICYMI: Union Fall in Last Preseason Match to Tampa Bay

Playing in their final preseason match on Saturday night, the Philadelphia Union fell 2-1 to USL side and Sun Coast Invitational hosts Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Jochen Graf put the home side up early in the 19th minute. Michael Nanchoff scored the eventual match-winning goal in the 35th minute that fired Tampa Bay up two goals at the half.

Union midfielder Haris Medunjanin did rescue a goal for the visitors in the 84th minute, with a brilliant free kick that bent around the wall assembled by Tampa Bay and into the top corner.

Cool as you’d like from the Bosnian.

Yes, it’s a preseason match. No, the Sun Coast Invitational isn’t on par with the UEFA Champions League or World Cup. But if you’re a Union fan, this is probably not the type of performance that is going to ease the Negadelphian feelings heading into a new season, with the first match this Saturday.

Dockal on the Bench

Another potential bright spot for Union fans to takeaway from Saturday’s final preseason match was the sight of Czech international and newest rumored signing Bořek Dočkal.

Jordan Morris Out With ACL Tear

On Saturday, FOX Sports’ Stuart Holden confirmed the worst via Twitter.

Morris sustained the injury during the Seattle Sounders opening match in the CONCACAF Champions League on Thursday, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to Santa Tecla of El Salvador.

The 23-year-old went down untouched in the 85th minute and had to be carried off the pitch.

From everyone at PFD, we would like to wish Jordan a swift and successful recovery.

Manchester City Defeat Arsenal, Win Carabao Cup

Sergio Aguero’s 18th minute loft over Arsenal keeper David Ospina, along with second-half goals from veterans Vincent Kompany and David Silva, powered Manchester City to a Carabao Cup final victory over the Gunners.

The win saw Pep Guardiola lift his first trophy since taking charge of the club in 2016.

So, Gooners, #WengerOut?

Sunday’s English league cup final didn’t exactly live up to the casual football fan’s expectations in terms of flair and drama.

And if you’re an Arsenal fan, a three-nil loss to City was certainly not written in the pre-match script. Arsenal, who have almost come to expect cup wins at Wembley during the Arsene Wenger era, were visibly not up for the challenge posed by Guardiola’s side.

Perhaps the most frustrated by the lopsided result was Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, who slammed the “spineless” Gunners during and after the match.

Here are just some of Neville’s “constructive criticisms.”

Usain Bolt Signs for a Football Team

Usain Bolt, according to Bolt himself in a Tweet on Sunday morning, has officially signed for a professional football team! We just don’t know where and for whom the Jamaican has signed on for.

Bolt has never tried to hide his fandom for Manchester United. But then again, it may be safe to assume the Jamaican has been hiding his support for the Philadelphia Union all this time.
